Catwalk_For_A_Cause_2016_299NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. and longtime girlfriend Sherry Pollex are grateful to be winning the race against cancer. When Sherry was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2014, it hit close to home for the couple, who have dedicated their philanthropic efforts to fighting pediatric cancer through the Martin Truex Jr. Pediatric Special Needs Fund at Levine Children’s Hospital.

This fund, made possible in part by the Foundation’s annual charity event, Catwalk for a Cause, provides financial assistance to hospitalized families in need. In 2015, the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation committed $300,000 help hire a new nurse practitioner at Levine Children’s Hospital’s Torrence E. Hemby Jr. Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Center.

In response to Sherry’s yearlong journey battling cancer, the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation expanded its mission to include raising awareness and funds for ovarian cancer research. In September 2015, the Foundation sponsored the annual Stiletto Sprint, which benefits ovarian cancer research, patients programs, education, and awareness at Levine Cancer Institute.

We are indebted to Martin, Sherry, and the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation for their enduring commitment to cancer care at Carolinas HealthCare System.
