On September 23, swimming enthusiasts (including Olympians), kayakers and volunteers hit Lake Norman for Swim Across America’s inaugural Charlotte Open Water Swim. Leading up to the event, nearly 200 participants raised funds to support leukemia research at Levine Cancer Institute. Featured guests included Olympic gold medalist and hometown hero Ricky Berens, as well as fundraisers and team captains from the Queens University swim team.

Ballantyne-based Swim Across America, which supports cancer research at the most highly recognized hospitals and institutions in the country, raised $105,000 for Levine Cancer Institute.
