This June, the Philip L. Van Every Foundation contributed $50,000 to the Cottie & Cake Fund in honor of Dr. Donald Russ, who recently retired after a distinguished career at Mecklenburg Medical Group. This generous gift will be used to help redesign interiors and add necessary medical equipment to the family sleep rooms located in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nurseries (NICN) at Levine Children’s Hospital.

Together, they founded the Cottie & Cake Fund—named after their twin daughters, Katelynn and Scottlyn—who received care in the hospital’s NICN following a high-risk pregnancy and delivery. All funds raised to support the Cottie & Cake Fund directly benefit the neonatology program at Levine Children’s Hospital, as well as Charlotte Fetal Care Center.
