This week, we celebrated a milestone in Dr. James B. (“Jim”) Hall’s distinguished career as an oncologist at Atrium Health’s Levine Cancer Institute. A $100,000 endowment (named the James B. Hall, M.D. Endowed Lectureship in Gynecologic Oncology) was made possible by generous gifts from many of Dr. Hall’s colleagues, residents, and patients over the last 36 years. A special thank you goes to The Bissell Family Foundation for their generous support.

Our colleague and friend, Dr. Jim Hall, is retiring on June 30, 2016. Jim was the first gynecologic oncologist in Charlotte and has been the only Division Director of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Hall has deservingly earned a reputation as an outstanding gynecologic oncologist over his 36-year career. His dedication to patients, resident/student education, with support from the Atrium Health, has resulted in national recognition for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. He has been instrumental in the division being a member of national cooperative research groups at Carolinas Medical Center, formerly Charlotte Memorial Hospital, to what is now Levine Cancer Institute (LCI).

Jim will always be remembered for his enthusiasm, boundless energy, vision, and dedication to patient care. He was interim chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for two years and recently the President of the Mecklenburg County Medical Society. In addition to his professional contributions, Jim has been role model for faculty, residents, and staff with his professionalism and positive approach to life.
