Carolina Panthers Give $1 Million to Levine Cancer Institute

This September, Atrium Health’s Levine Cancer Institute celebrated the grand opening of a new family center at Levine Cancer Institute. The Carolina Panthers, long-time supporters of Atrium Health, have committed $1 million to support cancer research at the Institute through the Keep Pounding Fund. In recognition of their gift, the Keep Pounding Family Center in the newly expanded Institute is being named in honor of the team’s signature mantra, Keep Pounding. The spacious family and visitor center is located along the 3rd Floor of the Institute within the Skybridge, which connects the original Institute to the new building. Learn more.

 

Grand Opening of Newly Renovated, Expanded Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapies Unit

Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Hospital celebrated the grand opening of their newly expanded and renovated Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapies unit. The program is among the few worldwide that offer transplant and cellular therapies to pediatric patients in a setting that provides for optimal physical and emotional healing.

The program’s expansion was made possible by funds raised during the 2017 and 2018 Levine Children’s Gala; including significant support from Sandra and Leon Levine and their family – Amy and Alfred Dawson, Lori and Eric Sklut, and Julie and Howard Levine – as well as Eastwood Homes, Unicon, Natalie and David Secrest, and Linda and Rick Hendrick. In recognition of their leading support, the unit will be known as “Sandra and Leon’s Place,” featuring a unique play area that honors the Hendrick family.

Estate Gift from the James Vallomy Trust

The late Mr. Vallomy’s generous bequest will benefit Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, serving the unmet needs of those who are terminally ill, and those who care and grieve for them. Further, this generous bequest will support Hospice’s Community Grief Program for children, teens and adults.

 

Hearst Foundation Launches Mobile App to Curb Opioid Addiction

A grant for $150,000 from the Hearst Foundation, Inc., will help to launch a new mobile health app to ensure that Atrium Health patients have safe and effective pain control after surgery, while decreasing the risks of opioid overuse. The grant will strengthen a first-of-its kind alert system Atrium Health developed over the past three years, called PRIMUM, that helps healthcare providers recognize patients who may be at risk for opioid use disorders or misuse.

 

Wells Fargo Championship Supports Levine Cancer Institute

Champions for Education, the philanthropic arm of the Wells Fargo Championship, generously donated $250,000 to support Levine Cancer Institute, made possible with proceeds from the 2019 Championship tournament held at Quail Hollow Club.

 

$25,000 Donation to support Lymphoma and CLL Research and Bladder Cancer Research at LCI

A generous contribution of $25,000 from a grateful patient will support the Carolinas Lymphoma and CLL Research Fund to advance the Institute’s lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia studies, as well as the Institute’s bladder cancer research and treatment programs.

Costco’s Annual Campaign for Children’s Miracle Network

This September, local Costco stores raised $60,000 during their annual campaign to support CMN member hospital, Levine Children’s Hospital. Costco has been a Children’s Miracle Network partner for more than 30 years.

 

ACE Hardware Leads the Blue Bucket Challenge

Going above and beyond to support their patients, Levine Children’s teammates partnered with local ACE Hardware stores this summer to participate in the retailer’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Blue Bucket Challenge. Atrium Health teammates representing six pediatric departments put their hearts into their creations to support ACE Hardware’s annual campaign, helping ACE Hardware raise over $5,000 for Levine Children’s. The Neonatal Progressive Care Nursery, led by captains Ashleigh Taylor and Christina Senger, won the challenge.

 

Showing the “Love” to Levine Children’s Patients and Families

For their 20th Annual Campaign for Children’s Miracle Network, employees and customers of local Love’s Travel Stops helped raise over $100,000 through Miracle Balloon sales, Love’s National Coffee Day and other grassroots fundraising events hosted by the travel stop retailer.

9th Annual Stiletto Sprint

A beloved community event, the Stiletto Sprint has become a symbol of hope and an opportunity for healing for many who’ve faced ovarian and gynecologic cancers, whether as a caregiver or survivor. This September, hundreds of supporters, led by presenting sponsor Real Estate for the Common Good: A Bissell Forward, raised over $83,000 in philanthropic support for ovarian cancer research at Levine Cancer Institute.

 

Eastwood Homes Golf Classic for Levine Children’s Hospital

Eastwood Homes has been a proud supporter of Levine Children’s Hospital since 2007. In addition to donating a portion of every Charlotte-area sale to the hospital, Eastwood Homes raised an additional $105,000 for the hospital through its seventh annual golf tournament.

 

Swimming the Distance to Fight Cancer

This September, hundreds of avid and novice swimmers made a splash at the Lake Norman YMCA in the third annual Swim Across America Charlotte open water swim, benefiting leukemia research at Levine Cancer Institute. Founded in 1987, Swim Across America hosts swimming events across the country each year, having raised a combined total of more than $75 million since inception. Levine Cancer Institute’s leukemia research team is honored to be among the beneficiaries of the unique fundraising event.

 

26th Annual Ed Stubbs Memorial Golf Tournament

The 26th annual Dr. Ed Stubbs Memorial Golf Tournament, held September 24, raised over $55,000 to support Atrium Health University City in its community outreach and wellness programs.

 

Charlotte Radiology Raises Funds for Breast Cancer Screening Programs

On September 26, breast cancer advocates and beer lovers alike united for the 9th Annual Pink Pint Night, hosted by NoDa Brewing Company and Charlotte Radiology. Attendees enjoyed NoDa’s pink brew, created especially for the occasion, bid on auction items and donated generously to support Levine Cancer Institute Project PINK and Project PINK Plus. A collaboration between Charlotte Radiology and Levine Cancer Institute, Project PINK breast cancer screening programs and mobile mammography unit provide vital access to breast cancer screening and diagnostic tests for underinsured women in Mecklenburg County.

 

Isabella Santos Foundation 5K/10K For Kids Cancer and September “Through My Eyes” Campaign

This September, ISF supporters rallied for the organization’s 12th annual Isabella Santos Foundation 5K/10K. Participants gave generously, raising more than $230,000 to benefit local childhood cancer research and patient care at Levine Children’s Hospital. Additionally, the organization worked with amazing families from across the community who shared their childhood cancer stories “through their own eyes” as part of a poignant campaign around rare childhood cancers.

 

Hope Resonates at Nephrology Center’s Annual Fundraiser

Guests at the fourth annual “Tune Up Your Kidneys” event on October 3 were treated to a hope-filled evening to benefit the Pediatric Nephrology Center of Excellence at Levine Children’s Hospital. The event, held at the Terrace at Cedar Hill, grossed over $86,000 in support for the Center.
