Atrium Health Foundation Social Media Guidelines

External

Our organization cares about the communities it serves and wants to stimulate conversation and discussion about health and wellness topics. Atrium Health Foundation encourages open discussion and welcomes any feedback, comments or questions you may have regarding the information posted on our social media pages. When doing that, please be aware of and respect the following guidelines:

  • We will provide timely and accurate information, news and events as they relate to the mission and values of the Foundation and programs within Atrium Health which we support.
  • We will cite the original source of any external references used as information, links or tools we post on our social media pages. We do not endorse the links posted by our users.
  • We have the right to monitor our social media pages, and consequently edit and delete any posted content we deem inappropriate.
  • We have the right to repost and reuse content posted by users on our social media sites (and in instances where the Foundation is tagged or otherwise connected to a second-party social media post. For example, mentioning @GiveAtrium in a personal Twitter message).

The views and opinions expressed by external users (visitors) of our social media channels do not directly reflect the views and opinions of Atrium Health Foundation as an organization (nor Atrium Health, whom we support), nor those of our employees, patients or their families.

Patient information or experiences shared by patients or their families or friends will be at the discretion of the user. We will not post or reply to any communication that will violate the privacy of our patients and their families, in accordance with HIPAA privacy rules.

This site should not be used as a source for medical advice or take the place of a consultation with your physician. Employees of Atrium Health are not to engage in discussions regarding medical care on their own or at the request of a user.

Our social media pages are not to be used for solicitations for other organizations including but not limited to: political, product/service endorsements, advocacy or charitable*. *Only Atrium Health sanctioned and approved charitable solicitations.

The following social media pages are officially owned and managed by Atrium Health Foundation. Additionally, Atrium Health System owns and manages its own social media pages (also noted below). Any other pages that make reference to our hospitals, practices, programs or employees are not sanctioned by Atrium Health and therefore are not accurate representations of either organization.

Internal

The Social Media Guidelines for our external audience also apply to the employees of Atrium Health Foundation.

In addition to those guidelines, employees should adhere to the following:

  • Use discretion when engaging in conversation on public social media pages. Please remember, you are an employee of Atrium Health Foundation and your involvement in social media (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Flicker, blogs, or other future social media) reflects upon you as an individual and the organization to which you are employed.
  • If posting information about either Atrium Health or Atrium Health Foundation on your own social media accounts (profile pages / channels), you must disclose your affiliation with the organization as you are liable for your content. Please strive to be as accurate as possible.

With prior permission to do so (if you are formally designated as a social media administrator or content provider for the Foundation):

  • When posting directly on Atrium Health Foundation social media channels, you are acting as the Foundation. As such you should use first person plural, expressing views and opinions that reflect our organization as a whole, and not of yourself.
  • The HIPAA privacy rules also apply on the Internet, therefore, you are not allowed to engage in medical conversations or give advice to any users. Do not discuss any specific cases, procedures or surgeries, or engage in any conversation that may violate the privacy of your patients on your personal or Foundation social media channels.
  • Patient photos may not be posted without a signed release form from the patient or guardian, provided by the Public Relations department.
  • Please ensure that your social media activity does not interfere with your work commitments.
