A hospital visit can be a very scary time for children and their parents. Child Life specialists at Levine Children’s Hospital are using innovative methods of psychosocial and emotional support to ease the anxiety of patients and allow them to cope during their hospital stay. Family-centered care is a cornerstone of Levine Children’s Hospital; the goal of Child Life is to create a safe haven for patients and families—one that fosters love, laughterand peace of mind. We are proud to partner with Giving Stream on a new campaign designed to bring hope and encouragement to patients and families at Levine Children’s Hospital.

Examples of how proceeds from the “Love and Laughter” Campaign can help:

  • Create “Love Packages” for patients and families. Sometimes families have to leave home in a hurry and forget to pack day-to-day necessities such as shampoo, razors, deodorant, toothbrushes and lotion. A family care kits contains all of these essentials, as well as fun items like crossword puzzles, word search books, pens and nail polish.

Support our patients today through a secure gift online (direct donation).

And be sure to check out Giving Stream’s socially conscious marketplace of personal accessories and gift items. A portion of proceeds from each purchase will be donated to support Child Life  Fund (or area of greatest need – at request of the donor) at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC.

The Child Life Program at Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Hospital:

At Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC, we not only treat the medical conditions of children; we also take care of their emotional needs. It can be scary for anyone in the hospital, but even more so for a child. Our child life program works alongside doctors, nurses and families to help children cope while being in the hospital – and adding in a little bit of fun, whenever possible.

What is a Child Life Specialist?

A child life specialist is someone who is trained to provide psychosocial and emotional support for hospitalized children, helping explain hospital procedures and treatments in age-appropriate ways. They use medical play, videos and other distractions to make a child’s experience feel safer and more normal, while restoring their sense of control. Each child life specialist has a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the areas of child life, child development, education or a related field.

Special thanks to our friends at Giving Stream for partnering with us in support of the Child Life Program at Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Hospital.
