On Wednesday, February 23, Atrium Health Union West celebrated its grand opening, making it the health system’s first newly built hospital in the Charlotte area in more than 30 years. The state-of-the-art campus includes an acute care hospital, emergency department, and specialty care center all wrapped into one convenient location at the intersection of Highway 74 and Stallings Road. The 150,000-square-foot hospital will serve the western part of Union County, North Carolina, bringing high quality and convenient access to care to residents of Matthews, Mint Hill, Stallings, Indian Trail, Weddington and surrounding communities in the eastern part of Mecklenburg County.

“Union County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of North Carolina, with nearly 250,000 people now calling Union County home,” shared Michael Lutes, senior vice president of Atrium Health and market president of Atrium Health’s South Market. “This rapid growth makes our state-of-the-art “Union West” hospital a well-suited addition to the Atrium Health system – a system focused on patient health, hope, and healing.”

The hospital is home to 40 licensed acute care beds, 10 emergency department bays with helipad, 3 operating rooms, imaging, pharmacy, and lab services. Located next to the hospital is the 67,000-square-foot specialty care center where patients now have access to outpatient care across the medical spectrum, including Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute, Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, Atrium Health Women’s Care, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology and hepatology, pulmonology, sleep medicine, surgery, and urology.
