Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital recently celebrated the highly anticipated reopening of its rooftop terrace—a vibrant and reimagined haven made possible by the generosity of community supporters.

Since its debut in 2007, the rooftop has been a beloved escape for patients and families, offering fresh air and a chance to connect outside of hospital rooms. It quickly became a gathering place for movie nights, outdoor games, and countless joyful moments. With so much love and use, the space was ready for a transformation.

Thanks to the vision and generosity of donors—led by Morris-Jenkins, Chick-fil-A, National Gypsum Company, and Blaire and Jonathan Bancroft—the rooftop has been reimagined as a city-scape “town center” designed to spark imagination and support healing.

The space now provides more than fun: it serves therapeutic purposes, as well. Physical and occupational therapists will use the area to help children navigate their environments, while Child Life specialists can engage patients in games and activities that incorporate play into care.

“This unique rooftop town will help kids be regular kids,” shared Callie Dobbins, facility executive at Levine Children’s. “Our donors have brought the town to the children, and we are so grateful.”

From colorful play areas to opportunities for socialization and family bonding, the renovated terrace is a place where smiles come easily, and healing feels possible. As Meghan Clithero, Levine Children’s facility executive, noted: “Sometimes the sunshine and fresh air can be just what the doctor ordered. This space can turn frowns upside down and support a child’s recovery.”

With its ribbon officially cut, the rooftop terrace is ready to create more lasting memories—and remind children and families that play has a place in healing.
