Introducing the Family Medicine Research and Education Fund:

Administered by Atrium Health Foundation, gifts to the Family Medicine Research and Education Fund provide philanthropic support for research, education, and patient care programs associated with the Atrium Health Department of Family Medicine and Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center Family Medicine Residency program. The Family Medicine Residency program provides training in both academic and community environments with diverse patient populations, allowing Atrium Health to develop the region’s most highly skilled family medicine physician workforce.

The support of philanthropy ensures exemplary patient care is provided across all Family Medicine practices, including Atrium Health Biddle Point, Atrium Health Primary Care, Atrium Health CMC Elizabeth Family Medicine, and Atrium Health Primary Care Union Family Practice. There are many ways our donors can help to advance patient care, research, and innovation within the Department of Family Medicine:

Support state-of-the-art medical technology and equipment

With philanthropic support, Atrium Health Family Medicine residents can be trained in the latest technology in bedside imaging. Point of Care Ultrasound, a cutting-edge diagnostic technology, will enhance residents’ education and patient care efficiency.

Expand community support for families

Atrium Health strives to provide innovative community-based support services to new and expectant mothers, including Centering Pregnancy and the Community Doula Program. With philanthropic support, our goal is to expand the Centering Pregnancy program, as well as offer the support of 2-3 community doulas, at Elizabeth Family Medicine, Biddle Point Family Medicine, and Atrium Health Union Family Medicine.

Advance cutting-edge research

Clinical and scientific research is an important focus of the Atrium Health Family Medicine Residency Program, including research to improve population health. Currently, our research is being used to develop programs that encourage and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health and avoid unnecessary emergency department visits.

Create access to affordable behavioral health

Access to affordable behavioral health care continues to be great. With philanthropic support, Atrium Health Family Medicine will be able to offer additional behavioral health services to patients free of charge through a behavioral health internship program with the University of North Carolina Charlotte.
