United as One to Pound Out Cancer
Created by the Carolina Panthers and Atrium Health Foundation in 2004, the Keep Pounding Fund supports cancer research efforts throughout Atrium Health. Since its establishment, the Keep Pounding Fund has received nearly $3.5 million in charitable gifts, which exclusively benefit cancer programs at Atrium Health Levine Children’s and Levine Cancer Institute. By participating in the Keep Pounding 5K, you can impact the lives of patients diagnosed with cancer, while spreading awareness and contributing to vital cancer research programs.
Your support enables Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children’s to offer Phase I and Phase II clinical research trials and the latest cancer treatments to patients where they need it most – close to home.
Donations to the Keep Pounding Fund are used to support:
• Clinical research (Phase I & II cancer research trials)
• Patient navigators
• Wellness and survivorship programs, education, and outreach
• State-of-the-art technology and equipment (improving cancer detection and treatment)
The legacy of Keep Pounding:
The mantra “Keep Pounding” was first spoken by the late Panthers linebacker and coach Sam Mills Jr. and has since become the collective battle cry of countless Panther fans across the country who continue to band together in the fight to cure cancer.

This year the Keep Pounding 5K will take on a virtual format.
During our virtual “race week” May 31-June 5, be active in honor of the Keep Pounding initiative by running, walking, biking, or completing any physical activity!
Be creative! Walk 5,100 steps in honor of the late Sam Mills(#51) during your training or race week; dedicate your Peloton® ride to the cause; swim 51 laps; complete 51 burpees. The possibilities of how you participate in support of the Keep Pounding Fund are endless! Together, let’s raise as many funds and as much awareness as possible for the Keep Pounding cause!
