Grant to provide scholarships for underrepresented students to work in healthcare

CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 27, 2022 – A $20,000 grant from The Foundation for a Healthy Carolina grant program of Foundation For The Carolinas was recently awarded to Carolinas College of Health Sciences in support of the Todd and Janelle Collins Nurse Aide Scholars Program. Established in 2021 with a generous commitment from Charlotte business executives Todd and Janelle Collins, the nurse aide program aims to remove barriers for underrepresented students who have a desire to work in healthcare professions.

“Carolinas College is committed to enhancing economic mobility in our community and diversity in our healthcare workforce,” said T. Hampton Hopkins, president of Carolinas College of Health Sciences. “Our nurse aide program provides a direct entry-level path to a career in healthcare as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), a career that is currently in demand at Atrium Health. Support from this grant from The Foundation for a Healthy Carolina will help to eliminate financial barriers for the student recipients, making this education more accessible to more people in the Charlotte community.”

The contribution was facilitated by Red Hill Ventures founder and CEO Todd Collins and will provide full scholarships to five qualified recipients. Collins’ passion for students’ success and social impact has long been evident in his volunteer service with the Stratford Richardson YMCA and through Red Hill Venture’s student internship program. In 2021, he joined the Atrium Health Foundation Board of Directors, sharing in Atrium Health’s vision to increase the diversity of the healthcare workforce and tackle some of the Charlotte community’s most critical health challenges through philanthropy.
