The Adaptive Sports & Adventures Program (ASAP) is designed to challenge youth and adults with physical disabilities to develop skills that will lead to and enhance an active and productive lifestyle – one without barriers or limits.
Our mission: ASAP exists to provide competitive and recreational adaptive sport opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities in our community and to support and promote the achievement of personal goals of adaptive athletes. Our vision: ASAP will be recognized as the leader in facilitating recreational opportunities for the individuals with physical disabilities whom we serve. The donation form (link on right) will allow you to make a secure, one-time or recurring donation to the Adaptive Sports and Adventures Fund administered by Atrium Health Foundation.
Every day, Carolinas Rehabilitation delivers high-quality inpatient and outpatient rehabilitative care for people of all ages who have suffered life-altering injuries and disease processes, such as spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, cancer and other injuries and diseases. As a not-for-profit hospital, Carolinas Rehabilitation relies on private philanthropic support to provide much of the additional personnel and equipment needed to develop and sustain innovative programs, such as the Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program.
With your help, Carolinas Rehabilitation can continue to offer a variety of programs to youth and adults with physical challenges in the Charlotte community and surrounding areas at little or no cost to the participants.
Types of activities offered to ASAP participants:
The Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program provides opportunities to participate in team sports such as:
- Cycling (Cycle to the Sea)
ASAP provides opportunities for participation in:
- Snow Skiing
- Youth triathlons (Levine JCC Kids Triathlon)
- Water Skiing
The Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program at Carolinas Rehabilitation has been designated as a Bronze-Level U.S. Paralympic Sport Club (as of November 2015). The Paralympic Sport Club Excellence Program, implemented by U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, is designed to support and recognize Paralympic Sport Clubs as they evolve their sport programming in various areas, including athlete identification and coaching education, and to recognize their contribution to the Paralympic Movement.
