On Wednesday, December 5, the Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research presented Carolinas HealthCare representatives with a check of $185,000, raised through the foundation’s annual Sarcoma Stomp as well as its Play for Paula Tennis Tournament.

With this gift, the Paula Takacs Foundation allowed for the creation of sarcoma-specific clinical trials — the first such endeavor for the Levine Cancer Institute and one close to the hearts of all those at the foundation.

Paula Takacs was diagnosed with liposarcoma in November 2004, within days of giving birth to her son, Graham. Paula and her husband, Geof, created the foundation in 2010, as she continued her battle against cancer. Paula passed away in April 2014, but not before turning her non-profit, the Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research, into one of the most successful grassroots sarcoma foundations nationwide.
